26. LAINCHAUR SUBSTATION

The Lainchaur Substation with Single Busbar System in Kathmandu supplies power to the Keshar Mahal, Samakhusi, Lazimpat, Gairidhara, Kingsway, Thamel, Royal Palace, and K2 switching station. With the assistance of the German government, this GIS Substation was established in 1989 with two numbers of 66/11kV, 10 MVA capacity. In July 1990, after an accident, indoor 12kV vacuum type switchgears were temporarily commissioned to serve the emergency loads. After three years of service, the 12 kV VCB switchgears were replaced with a GIS system. Two 66/11kV, 10MVA Power Transformers were relocated to Bhaktapur Substation in 1996, while two 66/11KV, 22.5MVA new Transformers were erected at Lainchaur Substation by Kathmandu Valley Reinforcement Project, NEA.
